I am Tina (Yiyuan) Tang, a cross-disciplinary designer dedicated to creating human-centered solutions that balance functionality, aesthetics, and emotional connection.
My process revolves around visual and spatial storytelling, sketching, and prototyping. I’ve always leaned into my innate sensitivity and empathy, which allow me to perceive subtleties in human experience and translate them into designs that resonate on a deeper level. For me, design goes beyond functionality—it is about creating holistic experiences that evoke thought and foster meaningful connections.
I was born and raised in Beijing, China, which gave me an international perspective and a deep love for cultural exchange. I took part in an exchange program with Tama Art University in Tokyo and a study-away program in Berlin, immersing myself in local environments and learning to approach context, identity, and storytelling in design. I also participated in a Royal Caribbean Cruises sponsored studio, working in a transdisciplinary team to design a cruise ship water park as a spatial experience designer.
Professionally, I’ve worked at Munchkin Inc. (now also known as Why Brands, Inc.) and DMF Lighting. My designs ranged from consumer products, such as a Silicone Drying Rack & Mat now on the market, to commercial downlighting systems. My installation Flow of Refraction was also exhibited at Tama Art University, highlighting my ability to bridge Industrial and experiential design.
My strengths lie in product and spatial storytelling, concept development, and art direction. As I graduate from ArtCenter, I continue to freelance while preparing for my next step in design. I remain passionate about designing with empathy, telling stories that connect, and creating experiences that leave a lasting impact.
